What does general dentistry include?

General dentistry is comprehensive care for your teeth, gums and oral health over time. It brings together prevention, diagnosis, treatment and ongoing maintenance, from routine visits to more complex restorative needs. Your care is planned around the whole picture, with appropriate referral when another clinician’s expertise is needed.

What happens at a new-patient visit?

Your new-patient exam starts with your concerns and a review of your medical and dental history. We examine your teeth, gums and bite, take dental photographs and take X-rays where clinically appropriate. We then explain the findings, review your treatment options and agree on priorities and next steps.

How do you decide which treatment to recommend?

We consider your examination findings, relevant research, likely benefits and limitations, and what matters to you. Your plan explains what needs attention now, what can be scheduled and what can be monitored. Where several options are reasonable, we compare their trade-offs and maintenance needs.

Do you provide family dental care?

Yes. Our Vancouver clinic provides general dental care for patients and families, with prevention and treatment adapted to age, oral health and individual needs. Care can be coordinated with another clinician when additional expertise is appropriate.

Can I ask for a second opinion?

Yes. A second-opinion appointment provides an independent assessment of a dental concern or proposed treatment. Relevant records and the existing treatment plan help us explain the findings, compare reasonable options and discuss whether monitoring or a different approach is appropriate.

What if I am nervous about seeing a dentist?

We plan care around your comfort, with clear explanations, agreed pauses and a stop signal. Sedation options include Ativan (lorazepam) or nitrous oxide when appropriate following an assessment of your medical history and treatment needs. When general anaesthesia is needed, care can be arranged and booked at a separate facility; general anaesthesia is not provided within our clinic.
