When should I call a dentist urgently?

Call for significant tooth pain, swelling, a dental injury, a broken tooth or a lost restoration that is causing problems. Tell the team when symptoms started, whether they are worsening, whether you have a fever or difficulty opening your mouth, and whether there was trauma. These details help us assess urgency and explain the next step.

When should I seek emergency medical care?

Call 911 or seek emergency medical care for difficulty breathing or swallowing, rapidly spreading facial or neck swelling, or serious trauma. Do not wait for an online appointment request to be answered in these circumstances.

Can I get a same-day dental appointment?

Urgent appointment availability depends on the day’s schedule and the assessment needed. Call 604-874-4612 to check availability. The team assesses your symptoms and discusses the next appropriate appointment or another care option when needed.

What should I do for a cracked or broken tooth?

Avoid chewing on the affected side or repeatedly testing the tooth by biting on it. Keep any detached piece to bring to the appointment, and contact a dentist. Do not use household glue or try to file the tooth. Tell us whether a fragment is loose or missing and whether the injury also affected your lip, jaw or other teeth.

Will antibiotics fix a dental abscess?

A dental abscess needs treatment of its source, which may involve drainage, root canal treatment or extraction. Antibiotics do not replace that care. Research supports dental treatment for most localized dental infections in otherwise healthy adults; fever, spreading infection or other systemic symptoms can change the need for antibiotics.

What if the pain stops before my appointment?

Tell us, but do not assume the problem is resolved. Pain can fluctuate while the underlying cause remains, and a tooth becoming less responsive does not prove it has recovered. Keep the planned assessment so we can determine whether treatment or monitoring is still needed.

Can I request an urgent appointment online?

Calling is the better option for an urgent concern during clinic hours. Online requests are not a real-time emergency service. If you submit a request, include a callback number and a brief description, and wait for the team to confirm an appointment before you attend.
